THE NMH Global CLASSROOM-Academics

The space where teaching/learning happens. It reflects every aspect of the school’s philosophy. We strive to offer a learning atmosphere that is positive, and engages students creatively and vigorously, physically and intellectually. The emphasis is on understanding, collaboration and exploration, giving new meaning to the terms ‘child-friendly’ and ‘child focused’. Connections are fostered catalysing real world, cross-disciplinary learning, and allowing students to make meaning of knowledge – to ask questions like ‘Why do I learn this? and, ‘How can I use it?’ Reflective practises for self-awareness and self- improvement are encouraged among our teachers. Their relationships with their students are multi-layered and sensitive, and solicit feedback from the learners. The intent is to make students accountable to high standards while maintaining the dignity of the child

Critical years for Brain development

To understand this better, we need to look at the stages of brain development. Studies have shown that at 3 years of age the brain is developed at 80% of its capacity and the rest of the child’s development is based on nurture and the environment that the child is exposed to. By age 6, the brain is 95% of its adult weight and peak of energy consumption. But the neural connections or ‘grey matter’ ae still pruning and wiring of the brain is still in progress from ages 7-22.

This makes schooling a vital link in a child’s neurological development. Social interaction, exposure to novel experiences and avoiding stress through positive relationships ensures that the child’s brain development is organic and this further helps to develop citizens with deep empathy. Online schools provide safe learning spaces within the home where students are engaged and productive, which facilitates the development of neural pathways. This further reduces the extend and severity of the Covid slide.
